As we all prepare to begin our Home Coming Sunday on September 12, I also would like Friendly News readers to glance at what has been done in Christian education, specifically Sunday School in the Spring of 2010 and continuously support whatever you can. It was my great honor and responsibility to join with you in God’s ministry at Calvary Baptist Church and work together with other great Sunday school teachers to promote Calvary’s Sunday school. We started our Sunday classes on February 21 and ended on June 6 with Children’s Sunday worship. Altogether there were 35 students and average attendance was 17.7 students every Sunday. There were four classes and eight regular teachers namely: 3-6 year old class taught by Elisa and Mark Ouellette, 7-10 year old class taught by Brenda Lewis and Julie Ros, 11-14 year old class taught by Kanya Sao and Renia Noel 15-18 year old class taught by Maude Lacoy and Mangyang. Alice, Ken and Sam were also involved in teaching when regular teachers were absent. We also had nursery care under Alice’s supervision. In our Sunday classes we followed a curriculum “Seasons of the Spirit” (Judson Press). Different activities that are related to the lessons include drawing, art and painting, paper cutting, etc. These were used in the classroom under the teachers’ supervision. Every Sunday morning we started combined classes with about 15 minutes of singing before the different age group lessons began. Children learned different responsibilities, for instance how to say a prayer, to collect the offerings, to read the Bible, to help teachers by getting what is needed in the classroom and to learn the importance of giving an offering. Handmade birthday cards were mailed out to each student on his or her birthday. Teachers and students drew pictures and wrote birthday wishes on the cards. Teachers were so wonderful. I greatly appreciate their commitment to service, to the children’s church lives, their true spirit of love, and their enthusiasm not only to teach but also to learn the children’s songs and their support and hard work to let Calvary Sunday school grow. Three different teachers’ meetings were conducted to discuss the curriculum, for an orientation and a Sunday school class evaluation. Our children are the future of the church and for them to learn about their Christian faith, spiritual journey and the importance of church community life, these Sunday classes will be the foundation. To have successful Sunday classes, it is just “WE” work together. So continuously “WE” work and let the church grow. We all can do something: teach Sunday classes regularly or even a few times, give a ride to those children who need a ride, encourage children in whatever way you can. Do you remember a pleasant surprise Easter Gift received by children from Fred Georgoulis? This was not only a gift but a great encouragement for children. Thank you so much Fred. Please continuously uphold in your prayers the children and teachers so that this year we will have another successful year of Sunday school. Again remember our Sunday school starts at 9:30 am on September 12th Home Coming Sunday. Parents bring your kids, grand kids or bring your friends’ kids and children bring your friends. Add the following under Christian Education or Other Activities where you think it would work best.
